In the early morning hours of August 23, 2020, a verbal altercation outside a sports bar in Garden City, Georgia, escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 28-year-old Armando Hernandez Suarez. The incident occurred at approximately 3:16 a.m. in the vicinity of the Copacabana Sports Bar located on U.S. Hwy 80.
Following the dispute, Juan Altamirano, a 40-year-old resident of Savannah, is alleged to have shot and killed Hernandez Suarez.
The Garden City Police Department responded to the scene and subsequently requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to lead the homicide investigation.
Investigators identified Altamirano as the suspect in the shooting. The GBI secured arrest warrants for Altamirano, charging him with Felony Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and two counts of Aggravated Assault. Authorities publicly appealed for information regarding the whereabouts of Juan Altamirano following the incident. The shooting of Armando Hernandez Suarez was one of the homicides recorded in the Savannah area in 2020.
