In the fading afternoon light of September 29, 2020, a burst of gunfire shattered the ordinary quiet outside a Pak N Go convenience store on Olive Road in Augusta, Georgia. When the chaos subsided, 20-year-old Keyeon Demmons, a Black male, was found inside a 2006 Honda Civic, having been shot at least once. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals in the car with Demmons at the time of the shooting managed to escape without injury. Demmons was a graduate of T.W.
Josey High School's Class of 2018.
The investigation into the shooting, which occurred around 3:30 p.m., led authorities to identify two suspects. Approximately six weeks after the incident, on November 6, 2020, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office arrested 20-year-old Juante Lord. He was charged with murder, two counts of aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, and weapon possession. At the time of his arrest for the murder of Demmons, Lord had a previous adult arrest for marijuana possession, driving without a license, and speeding.
The second suspect, 22-year-old Naytrone Adams, remained at large for a period following Lord's arrest. He was also wanted for murder in connection with Demmons's death. According to records from the Richmond County Jail, Naytrone Henry Adams was eventually booked on June 17, 2021, on a grand jury arrest warrant. The motive for the shooting was not publicly released by authorities. During the incident, several rounds of gunfire also struck a nearby 2003 Jeep Cherokee. The legal proceedings for both Juante Lord and Naytrone Adams following their arrests have not been widely publicized, leaving the final resolution of the case, including potential trials, convictions, and sentences, unclear from available online sources.
