In the quiet town of Rockmart, Georgia, the life of Ginger “Leanne” Blackmon, a 36-year-old female, was tragically cut short on the evening of Sunday, October 18, 2020. At her home on Rice Road, what began as a domestic argument escalated into a fatal act of violence, leaving a community in shock and a family shattered.
Ginger was discovered unconscious by authorities responding to a call and sadly succumbed to a gunshot wound before she could be transported to a hospital. Investigators quickly identified her husband, Jimmy Brian Blackmon, as the primary suspect in her death. It is believed that in the midst of a heated dispute, he shot his wife and then fled their shared home, sparking a week-long manhunt that would span multiple counties.
The search for Jimmy Blackmon began almost immediately. His black GMC pickup truck was found abandoned a few hours after the shooting in the parking lot of a Walmart in East Rome. It was later determined that his son from a previous marriage, 21-year-old Corey Brian Blackmon, had picked him up from that location. Initially, Corey denied any knowledge of his father's whereabouts but later confessed to dropping him off on Georgia 101 and Pleasant Valley Road in Floyd County. For his role in misleading investigators, Corey Blackmon was arrested and charged with obstructing law enforcement officers.
The manhunt for Jimmy Blackmon intensified, with law enforcement agencies, including the Polk County Police and the U.S. Marshals Service, combing the area where he was last seen. The search even led them back near the couple's home in Rockmart, where he was nearly apprehended before disappearing into the woods. The search finally came to an end on a Monday, when authorities located and arrested Jimmy Brian Blackmon, who was found hiding in a house in Carrollton, Georgia. He was subsequently charged with the murder of his wife, Ginger.
