In the early morning hours of January 6, 2021, a grim discovery was made on Spread Oak Road near Hannah Lane in Keysville, Georgia. Responding to a call about a possible traffic accident, deputies from the Burke County Sheriff's Office found the body of 33-year-old Brian Tervontia Carswell. It was quickly determined that this was no accident; Carswell had been shot to death.

community. Known for his love of singing and his ability to light up a room, he was an active participant in several church choirs. His sudden and violent death sent shockwaves through the community and left his family searching for answers. In the weeks following the discovery of his body, Carswell's family reported unsettling incidents, including receiving text messages from unknown numbers and observing a suspicious vehicle near their home, heightening their fears.
The investigation into Carswell's murder led to the arrests of two men in March 2021. Darius Savage, 23, of Hephzibah, was taken into custody on March 17, and 19-year-old Tommie Tennyson of Augusta turned himself in on March 24. Both men were charged with murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The Burke County Sheriff's Office expressed gratitude for the public's assistance in making the arrests.
However, the legal proceedings took a turn in September 2021 when the charges against Tommie Tennyson were dropped. The district attorney stated that Tennyson was no longer a target of the investigation into Brian Carswell's murder.
