In the quiet community of Thomasville, Georgia, the life of 15-year-old Katelyn Elizabeth Poole was tragically cut short on Thursday, January 28, 2021. A promising student at Scholars Academy, where she was known for her academic excellence and her particular enjoyment of Latin class, Katelyn was described by those who knew her as kind and polite to everyone she encountered. She shared a close bond with her father, David Brent Poole, with whom she enjoyed spending time outdoors and caring for their many Llewellin Setters.
The devastating event unfolded at their home on Beth Page Road in Grady County, near the Florida state line. Concern arose when Katelyn's father was unable to make contact with his wife and daughter. Upon arriving at the residence late that night, he made a harrowing discovery and immediately called 911 to report that his wife had taken her own life after shooting their daughter.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation conducted an inquiry into the deaths of Katelyn and her 59-year-old mother, Penny Jones Poole. The investigation concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide, confirming that Penny Jones Poole was the perpetrator in her daughter's death.
