In the late hours of February 16, 2021, the life of 18-year-old William Andrew Trawick, a male, was tragically cut short by gunfire. The fatal incident unfolded at a residence on Brooks Road in Jackson, Georgia, where Trawick had recently moved with two other people. What began as a gathering of individuals at the home soon escalated into a violent altercation that would leave one dead and three others wounded.
That evening, a group of men arrived at the Jackson home with the intention
of robbing Trawick during a planned marijuana purchase. Among the visitors were Yaquan Chapman, Jordan Watson, Calvin Rozier, and Carey Williams, who had enlisted Christian Miles to drive them. An argument broke out, and members of the visiting party suddenly drew pistols and began shooting. Trawick suffered multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Two of his housemates, a man and a woman, were also shot, along with one of the men who had accompanied the shooters. The three surviving victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the deadly shooting moved swiftly. The same night, authorities apprehended 18-year-old Jordan Watson of McDonough. A few days later, on February 19, 18-year-old Carey Williams of Locust Grove was also taken into custody. Both were charged with murder and aggravated assault for their roles in the incident. Law enforcement also identified a third suspect, 19-year-old Calvin Teotis Rozier, and sought public assistance to locate him.
Ultimately, a Butts County grand jury indicted Chapman, Watson, Rozier, and Williams for the crimes. During the legal proceedings, Carey Williams's case was separated from the others, and he testified for the state. Following a jury trial, both Yaquan Chapman and Jordan Watson were found guilty on all counts. For the malice murder of William Trawick, they were each sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, with additional years tacked on for the aggravated assaults.
