In the city of Atlanta, on March 12, 2021, the life of 42-year-old Jerome 'Tear Drop' Grant was tragically cut short. An African American male, Grant was a well-liked individual within his community, and his sudden death sent shockwaves through those who knew him. The circumstances of his passing were violent and abrupt, a homicide that left a family grieving and a neighborhood in search of answers.
On that Friday afternoon, just before 3:30 p.m., Atlanta police officers were dispatched
to a residence on Alfred Road NW following a report of a person shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered Jerome Grant suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of the responding officers, Grant succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation into his murder was quickly initiated by homicide investigators who cordoned off the area and began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
The case took a digital turn when family members reported that a video of the killing had been uploaded to Instagram by a witness, a claim that the Atlanta police could not immediately confirm as being related to their investigation. This disturbing development added a layer of public visibility to a deeply personal tragedy. The investigation pointed towards a possible dispute with individuals known to Grant as a potential motive for the violence that ended his life.
Less than a month after the shooting, a significant breakthrough occurred in the case. On April 1, 2021, investigators with the Atlanta Police Department's Fugitive Unit, in collaboration with U.S. Marshals, apprehended a suspect in East Point, Georgia. The individual taken into custody was 19-year-old Jerome Pazhedath. He was subsequently charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony in connection with Jerome Grant's death. Pazhedath was then transported to the Atlanta Public Safety Headquarters for an interview with the Homicide Unit as the legal process against him began.
