On a Sunday evening that marked Easter, April 4, 2021, the life of 19-year-old Domingo Paco-Camacho, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a violent encounter at an apartment complex in Brookhaven, Georgia. Around 7 p.m., officers from the Brookhaven Police Department were dispatched to the Highland Knoll Apartments located at 3683 Buford Highway following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Paco-Camacho suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of the officers and subsequently DeKalb Fire Rescue personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide quickly pointed to a robbery gone wrong. Authorities determined that Paco-Camacho and another individual, 17-year-old Kevin Daniel Pano-Galvez, were the targets of an armed robbery. The assailants reportedly stole cash, a cell phone, and drugs. The incident escalated to the fatal shooting of Paco-Camacho. The Brookhaven Police Department, in a coordinated effort with other law enforcement agencies, swiftly identified two suspects in the case.
Within a remarkably short period, two arrests were made. On the very same night of the shooting, officers apprehended 19-year-old Jervano Johnson of Norcross at his residence in Gwinnett County. Two days later, on April 6, the second suspect, 17-year-old Bre'On Harold Corbin of Lawrenceville, was taken into custody during a traffic stop near his home. Both Johnson and Corbin were charged with felony murder and armed robbery for their alleged roles in the death of Domingo Paco-Camacho and the robbery of Kevin Daniel Pano-Galvez. Following their arrests, both suspects were transported to the DeKalb County Jail, where they were held without bond.
