In September 2021, a 29-year-old woman, Rechuna Kemp, was found with several gunshot wounds in front of a home on the 6000 block of Birdseye Trail in South Fulton, Georgia. She was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after her arrival. The incident cut short the life of a young woman from Atlanta.
The investigation into her death quickly led authorities to identify a suspect. Quontavius Demarco Pickens, a 30-year-old man, turned himself in to the police the day after the shooting. While the motive for the shooting was not immediately released by law enforcement, the subsequent investigation provided enough evidence to move forward with legal proceedings against him.
Pickens was taken to the Fulton County Jail and charged with murder in connection with Kemp's death. In addition to the murder charge, he faced several other serious offenses, including theft by taking, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, tampering with evidence, and first-degree cruelty to children.
