In a quiet South Fulton, Georgia neighborhood, the life of 96-year-old Sara Barnett came to a tragic and violent end on the evening of April 6, 2022. A female, Barnett was shot and killed inside her own home, an act that would lead to a lengthy and tense standoff with police.
The suspect in this harrowing incident was identified as Sara Barnett's 31-year-old grandson, Jeremy Ingram. According to accounts from other relatives present at the scene, Ingram walked up to his grandmother as she was sitting in a recliner and shot her. Following the shooting, he barricaded himself inside the residence on Grammercy Drive, prompting a significant police response. For seven hours, the South Metro SWAT team attempted to negotiate with Ingram, who remained unresponsive inside the house.
The standoff concluded in the early hours of the following morning when SWAT officers stormed the home. They discovered Sara Barnett's body and found Jeremy Ingram, who was then taken into custody with only minor injuries.
