In the autumn of 2021, the life of 37-year-old LaDon Brantley Burley, an African American male, was cut short in Augusta, Georgia. On the morning of October 24th, Burley was discovered deceased inside his mobile home located in the Augusta Estates Mobile Home Park on Milledgeville Road. The coroner confirmed that he had sustained at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at 7:10 a.m. At the time of his death, Burley was on parole, having been released from prison just two months prior.
An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's crime lab to further examine the circumstances of his death.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to a suspect. De'Quinn Hamilton, a 34-year-old man from Augusta, was arrested in connection with Burley's death. Hamilton faced a litany of serious charges, including murder, kidnapping, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was subsequently booked into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. The motive for the killing was not immediately made public, and the nature of the relationship, if any, between Burley and Hamilton remained unclear to investigators in the immediate aftermath.
