Darius Shields, an 18-year-old male, became the first homicide victim of 2013 in Baltimore on the evening of Friday, January 11th. The tranquility of the New Year was shattered when violence erupted, claiming the lives of three individuals in separate incidents across the city. Shields' life was cut short in the Brooklyn neighborhood of South Baltimore, a place he called home.
