In the quiet, rural landscape of Tallapoosa, Georgia, the life of 74-year-old Nathan Larry Mayfield came to a tragic and violent end on February 3, 2022. A man known in his community as a jack-of-all-trades who had run a successful second-hand store with his wife of 57 years, Mayfield's final moments unfolded in a grim sequence of events that left two other family members shot and a community in shock.
On that Thursday, law enforcement officers were dispatched to Mayfield's home on
Moeser Road around lunchtime following reports of a possible shooting. The first to arrive were officers from the Tallapoosa Police Department.
