Anthony Thomas Best, a 54-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on June 4, 2022, in Guyton, Georgia. Best, who worked as a correctional officer at the Effingham County Correctional Institution, was off duty when he was fatally shot in the driveway of his home on Brogdon Road. The incident occurred early in the morning, and despite being rushed to Effingham County Hospital, Best was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
