In the early morning hours of June 4, 2022, the quiet of a Guyton, Georgia neighborhood was shattered by gunfire that ended the life of Anthony Thomas Best, a 54-year-old African American man. An off-duty correctional officer at the Effingham County Correctional Institution, Best was discovered in the driveway of his Brogdon Road home with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Effingham County Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival ...
