In the summer of 2022, a young mother's life was tragically cut short in what police described as a domestic incident. Johana Cabrales-Hernandez, a 23-year-old Hispanic female, was found shot to death in her Roswell, Georgia, home on July 6. The discovery was made after her two young children, aged two and seven months, were unexpectedly dropped off at a family member's house, sparking concern for their mother's well-being.
Family members who went to check on Cabrales-Hernandez at her
residence on Old Ferry Way found her deceased from a gunshot wound. Investigators quickly identified her 27-year-old boyfriend, Fabien Perry, as the primary suspect in her murder. A manhunt was immediately launched for Perry, who was also the father of Cabrales-Hernandez's children. Authorities believed he had fled the state and was considered armed and dangerous. Perry was also wanted in connection with a separate road rage incident in Alpharetta from October 2021, where he allegedly punched a woman in the face.
The search for Fabien Perry came to a dramatic and violent end on July 18, 2022, in Aurora, Colorado. Roswell police, working with state and federal partners, tracked Perry to a home where he was staying with acquaintances. A standoff ensued that lasted for several hours, with Perry refusing to surrender to the SWAT team that had surrounded the residence.
During the standoff, Perry fired multiple shots from inside the house. The confrontation reached its climax when Perry exited the home wielding a rifle. In the ensuing exchange, he was shot by law enforcement officers. Perry was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. His death closed the investigation into the murder of Johana Cabrales-Hernandez, leaving her family to mourn the loss of a woman remembered as a dedicated and loving mother.
