In a tragic encounter on August 5, 2022, 41-year-old Ronnie Albea, a male, lost his life in the parking lot of a Walmart on Harrison Road in Macon, Georgia. The fatal incident unfolded when Albea and his fiancé were approached by two individuals who demanded the keys to their vehicle. Albea refused to comply, leading to a physical altercation with the two men.
During the struggle, one of the assailants shot Albea.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital but was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving. The incident, which began as an attempted armed robbery and carjacking, escalated quickly, ending in a senseless loss of life.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation that led to the identification of two suspects. In April 2023, authorities arrested 18-year-old Elijiah Dewayne Gray in connection with the murder. He was taken into custody at a residence on Clisby Place and charged with murder. Gray was also facing two unrelated counts of making terroristic threats.
Nearly a year later, in March 2024, a second suspect, 20-year-old Mycco Vachion Gray, was apprehended after a brief foot chase near a home on Short Street. His arrest was a collaborative effort between the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit and the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force. Mycco Gray was charged with murder and hijacking a motor vehicle. Both suspects are being held without bond at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center as the legal process moves forward. In the wake of this tragedy, Albea's family has filed a lawsuit against Walmart, alleging that the retailer should have provided better security at the Harrison Road location, citing a history of violent crime in the area.
