In the city of Albany, Georgia, a young life was cut short on October 25, 2022, when 18-year-old Jatavious Dashuwn Johnson was fatally shot. The incident occurred just before 1:30 p.m. in the 700 block of West Second Avenue. When officers from the Albany Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered Johnson had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Jatavious, known to his loved ones as 'Ja Ja,' was remembered as a lively and enthusiastic individual who lived life with an intense energy. Born in Albany on August 3, 2004, he attended Monroe Comprehensive High School and was a member of Caught Up Ministries. His family and friends recall him as a free-spirited and strong-willed person who was often the center of attention.
Following the shooting, an investigation was launched to identify those responsible for Johnson's death. Witnesses reported seeing two male suspects flee the area in a tan 2008 Toyota Corolla that had camouflage on its hood. This information led to the identification of two suspects: a 15-year-old male and 17-year-old Draevion Albritten. Both individuals were subsequently arrested and charged with murder. The vehicle used by the suspects was also recovered by law enforcement for evidence processing.
In connection with the murder of Jatavious Johnson, another arrest was made. A 15-year-old named Alexander Holman was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Albany Police Department's Gang Unit in Dougherty County. Holman faced charges of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes, and possession of a firearm by a person under the age of 18. He was taken to the Dougherty County Jail. Authorities also indicated they were searching for a third suspect involved in the incident.
