In the quiet community of Gainesville, Georgia, a tragedy unfolded that cut short the life of Ruby K. Newberry, a 57-year-old woman. On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, she and her twin sister, Ruth R. Newberry, were found deceased inside their residence on Holland Drive. The sisters, who were close, shared a home where their lives would tragically come to an end.
The Hall County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and discovered the two women in a bedroom. In the living room, they found the body of 24-year-old Andrew Newberry, Ruth's son and Ruby's nephew. Investigators determined that Andrew Newberry had killed his mother and his aunt before taking his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motive for the double murder-suicide has not been released by authorities.
Autopsies were conducted to determine the exact cause of death for Ruby and her sister. The family was left to mourn the sudden and violent loss of three of its members just days before Christmas. Ruby was remembered as a woman who had worked for a number of years at a local cleaning service and was of the Baptist faith. She was laid to rest next to her twin sister. As the perpetrator died at the scene, there were no arrests or trials to follow in this case.
