In the early morning hours of July 26, 2013, violence shattered the quiet of a street in the McElderry Park neighborhood of East Baltimore. Deontrey Thompson, a 19-year-old Black male from the Broadway East neighborhood, was with another man in the 2700 block of Jefferson Street when gunfire erupted at approximately 1:30 a.m.
Responding officers discovered a grim scene. Thompson had sustained a gunshot wound to the head, a critical injury that would prove fatal.
The second individual had been shot in the back. Both men were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Deontrey Thompson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The other victim, who was not publicly identified, was reported to be in stable condition.
The investigation into the double shooting and subsequent homicide of Deontrey Thompson was initiated by the Baltimore Police Department.
