In the late afternoon of a summer day in Baltimore, tragedy struck on Pennington Avenue. On August 1, 2023, Darrell Oliver, a 38-year-old Black male, was in the 4600 block of the street when the sound of gunfire shattered the neighborhood's calm. When police arrived at approximately 4:44 p.m., they found Oliver suffering from a gunshot wound.
Paramedics were unable to save him, and Darrell Oliver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation by the Baltimore Police Department classified his death as a homicide. In the days that followed, details about what led to the shooting were scarce, and authorities reached out to the public for assistance in piecing together the events of that fatal afternoon.
As the investigation continued, Metro Crime Stoppers announced a reward of up to $8,000 for information that could lead to an arrest in the case.
