Christine Chubbuck, a 29-year-old television news reporter, tragically died by suicide on July 15, 1974, in Sarasota, Florida. She was working for WXLT-TV, now known as WWSB, and was hosting her community affairs talk show, "Suncoast Digest," when the incident occurred. During the live broadcast, Chubbuck announced that the station would present "an exclusive coverage of an attempted suicide," before pulling out a revolver and shooting herself in the head.
