Armando Cortez, a 16-year-old from Bartow, Florida, tragically lost his life on December 24, 2007. He was shot and killed while attending a Quinceañera celebration at the Carver Recreation Center in Bartow. Armando had just dropped off his girlfriend at the entrance of the venue and was parking his car behind the nearby Union Academy Magnet School when he was attacked by a group of individuals who mistakenly believed he was a member of a rival gang.
