Ian Klinedinst, a 22-year-old resident of Jacksonville, Florida, tragically lost his life on February 16, 2014. Ian was known for his friendly nature and dedication to his family and friends. He was engaged to Christie Lee Stevens and was a devoted father to their three young children. On the night of his death, Ian was in his car with his infant son and 2-year-old daughter when he was fatally shot in the head.
The incident occurred when Karla Davis, a 38-year-old woman, mistakenly
believed that Ian was involved in a burglary at her home. Davis, who had returned to her North Earline Circle residence to find it burglarized, noticed two vehicles parked on her street and assumed they were connected to the crime. Acting on this assumption, she fired into one of the vehicles, striking Ian in the head. His young daughter, who was in the car at the time, tried to wake him up after he was shot.
Davis fled the scene and was arrested four days later at a hotel on the Northside. She was charged with second-degree murder and, after a trial, was convicted and sentenced to life in prison with a 25-year minimum mandatory sentence. During the trial, Davis's defense highlighted her history of abuse, which they argued contributed to her actions that night. However, the prosecution maintained that her past did not justify the killing of an innocent man.
