Clausell Aaron Stevens, a 21-year-old resident of Orlando, Florida, tragically lost his life on May 18, 2014. Originally from Tallahassee, Stevens had moved to Orlando two years prior. On the evening of his death, Stevens was shot outside a Metro PCS cellphone store located in a shopping plaza on North Pine Hills Road. He was found lying facedown with a gunshot wound to the back of his head.
The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m., and Stevens was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Stevens' death revealed that he and a friend had witnessed a robbery in the parking lot of the shopping plaza. Lucien Maddicks, Jaheem Hunte, and Jwyanza Sutton were identified as the suspects involved in the robbery. Maddicks and Sutton had stolen a cellphone and a watch from another individual in the parking lot. When Stevens and his friend intervened, a physical altercation ensued, leading Maddicks and Hunte to open fire. Stevens' friend managed to escape and took cover inside a nearby beauty salon until the police arrived.
Following the incident, law enforcement officials launched a thorough investigation, which led to the arrests of the suspects. Lucien Maddicks and Jaheem Hunte, both 26 years old at the time, were charged with first-degree murder in connection with Stevens' death. Maddicks also faced additional charges of robbery with a firearm. Jaheem Hunte was apprehended in South Florida and subsequently transported to Orange County to face the charges. Jwyanza Sutton, the third suspect, was arrested and charged with robbery.
The case garnered significant attention due to the violent nature of the crime and the young age of the victim. The arrests and subsequent legal proceedings provided some measure of justice for Stevens' family and friends, who were left to mourn the loss of a beloved son, father, and fiancé.
