Johnnie Francis Walton, a 37-year-old male from New Smyrna Beach, FL, was found dead on June 4, 2014. Walton, who was a U.S. Coast Guard petty officer, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His body was discovered near the water's edge at Smyrna Dunes Park, close to the Coast Guard's Station Ponce de Leon Inlet. Walton had gone missing earlier that day while jogging with colleagues. His disappearance was reported by his commanding officer after Walton failed to return from the jog.
