William Dougalss Treadwell, a 42-year-old African-American man, was fatally shot in Baltimore, Maryland, on the evening of April 17, 2014. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of North Wolfe Street in the Broadway East neighborhood. Treadwell was in the company of a group of men near Wolfe Liquors when gunfire erupted.
According to witnesses, Treadwell and two other men were seen running up Wolfe Street. As they neared the liquor store located at the corner of East Lanvale and Wolfe streets, shots were fired from the direction of Federal Street. Treadwell was struck and fell to the sidewalk. Despite immediate calls to 911 and aid from those present, his injuries were fatal. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Baltimore Police Department's homicide unit launched an investigation into the shooting. However, the case quickly grew cold. Investigators were unable to identify a suspect or a motive for the killing.
