Tyler Evans, a 25-year-old man from Pensacola, FL, was found deceased on August 20, 2014, in an undeveloped neighborhood off Gulf Beach Highway. The investigation revealed that Tyler Evans had been fatally shot in the head on August 19, 2014. His body was discovered the following day, and his vehicle was later recovered in the Ensley area. The Escambia County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) immediately launched an investigation into the murder, working diligently to gather evidence and identify
suspects.
Through witness testimony and forensic evidence, ECSO investigators were able to identify Tony James Leamon Stroud Jr., a 23-year-old man, as a suspect in the murder of Tyler Evans. Stroud was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree premeditated murder. The arrest was a significant development in the case, providing some measure of closure to Tyler Evans' family and friends.
The legal proceedings against Tony Stroud Jr. progressed over the next two years. In 2015, an Escambia County Grand Jury indicted Stroud on charges of first-degree murder. The case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Alvin “Trey” Myers, while Stroud's defense was handled by the Regional Conflict Counsel Office. During the trial, the prosecution presented compelling evidence, including DNA evidence and witness testimonies, linking Stroud to the crime scene and the murder of Tyler Evans.
In June 2016, an Escambia County jury found Tony Stroud Jr. guilty of first-degree premeditated murder. Following the verdict, Circuit Judge Frank Bell sentenced Stroud to life in state prison without the possibility of parole.
