Lorenzo Moise, a 19-year-old Black male, was tragically shot and killed on October 20, 2014, in El Portal, Florida. The incident occurred around 5:03 p.m. as Lorenzo was attempting to cross a footbridge from El Portal to Northwest Miami-Dade. According to reports, Lorenzo was walking with at least three friends when he was gunned down. The footbridge gate was locked at the time, a measure taken by El Portal Police to reduce foot traffic and crime in the area.
This left Lorenzo and his friends unable to cross, and he was shot multiple times, with neighbors reporting hearing six shots fired.
Lorenzo's family described him as a young man who was trying to turn his life around. Despite having a past that included an arrest for marijuana possession, his uncle, Bony Antoine, mentioned that Lorenzo was making positive changes, such as applying for jobs and considering joining the National Guard. On the day of his death, Lorenzo was reportedly in the process of distancing himself from a lifestyle his family did not agree with.
The investigation into Lorenzo's death revealed that he had recently had a fight with some friends, but there were no known enemies who would have wanted to harm him. Miami-Dade Police Detective Robin Pinkard stated that the police had no information on suspects and were seeking help from the public. The police urged anyone with information to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers anonymously.
Despite the efforts of the police and the pleas from Lorenzo's family for information, no arrests have been made in connection with his murder. The case remains open, and the community continues to hope for justice for Lorenzo Moise.
