Qurell Gittings, age 38, was shot and killed on August 11, 2014, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was found with fatal gunshot wounds in the 2900 block of Brighton Street, a neighborhood that has experienced its share of violence. The homicide occurred during a time when Baltimore was grappling with a high number of shootings, largely fueled by issues such as the drug trade and easy access to firearms, which were contributing factors to the surging homicide rate in the city during that year.
