Elbert L. Merrick III, aged 22, tragically lost his life on January 23, 2016, in Crestview, Florida. The incident occurred at the home of Shanna and Kevin McGrath, where Merrick had gone to retrieve some items from Jacob Langston. During this visit, an altercation ensued between Merrick and Langston, leading to a violent confrontation. Langston shot Merrick in the head outside the McGrath residence.
