The investigation into Corsey's death led to the arrest of Malik Cornell Sullivan-Carr, a 26-year-old man from Crestview. Sullivan-Carr was apprehended in August 2020, following a collaborative effort between the Crestview Police Department, the State Attorney’s Office, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Investigators revealed that Sullivan-Carr and Corsey had gone to the Allen Park walking track together on the night of the murder. While there, Sullivan-Carr shot Corsey in the back of the head, killing him instantly. In January 2022, Sullivan-Carr was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of Steed Corsey Jr. The sentencing included 25 years for second-degree murder with a weapon and an additional 15 years for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
