Taijuan Jones, a 21-year-old Black man, was still in his own neighborhood when the violence found him. Just before 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2014, Baltimore police were called to the 400 block of Edgewood Street in west Baltimore for a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they found Jones at the scene with a gunshot wound to the head, gravely injured but alive.
He was rushed to an area hospital for emergency treatment, but the injury was catastrophic.
Not long after the ambulance ride and the frantic efforts that followed, Jones died. Police said he lived on the same block where he was shot, turning what should have been familiar ground into the place where his life ended.
