Donkevious D. Johnson, a 23-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on February 13, 2016, in Daytona Beach, Florida. Johnson, a former football player at Glades Central High School and a student at Bethune-Cookman University, was attending a party at the Indigo Lakes Golf Club when a fight broke out. The altercation escalated, leading to a shooting that resulted in Johnson's death.
He was transported to Halifax Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect in the shooting, 21-year-old Lamont Keith Postell Jr., was identified and charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. Postell allegedly opened fire during the fight, also injuring two other Bethune-Cookman University students. One of the victims, a female bystander, was critically injured after being shot in the head, while the other, Tre Jamal Williams, was shot in the back and later stabilized.
