His sister, Tina Nugent, described him as a loving and confident young man who enjoyed cooking Jamaican food and spending time with his 4-year-old son, Edgar Grant III.
Grant was the third person killed in Orange County that weekend, highlighting a troubling rise in violence in the area.
Following the shooting, the Orange County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation but initially made no arrests. In November 2016, Lindon Rhone, a 23-year-old male, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Grant's death. Rhone was apprehended at the Orange County Sheriff's Office headquarters.
