In the winter of 2015, the life of a 25-year-old Black male named Derrick Dargan was cut short on the streets of Baltimore. On the afternoon of February 1st, violence erupted in the 600 block of North Ellwood Avenue, where Dargan was shot. The incident, which also resulted in injuries to a woman who was with him, would ultimately claim his life. Emergency responders found Dargan at the scene, and he was quickly transported to a hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
The narrative of Derrick Dargan's life included a significant brush with the law less than two years prior to his own tragic end. He had been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death of another man, Marcus Lemon, in May of 2013. However, when the case went to trial in October 2014, a jury acquitted Dargan of the charges, and he was released from custody. His freedom, however, would be short-lived, as he found himself the target of gunfire just a few months later.
