Guillermo Manuel Comme, a 27-year-old Hispanic male and former Marine, tragically lost his life on September 18, 2016, in Miami Gardens, Florida. Comme, who had served two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, was shot and killed during an armed carjacking. The incident occurred shortly after midnight when Comme and his family were visiting friends and were about to leave. As they were in their car, a suspect armed with two firearms approached and attempted to rob them. While three of the car's occupants managed to flee, Comme engaged in a struggle with the suspect. During the altercation, the suspect shot Comme, but a family member returned fire, injuring the suspect.
The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Demetrious Oscar Williams, was found by officers on a nearby street and was taken to Aventura Hospital in critical condition. Comme was also rushed to the same hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later that night. Williams, who had been critically injured, died the following afternoon.
Comme's death left his family devastated. His wife, Laura Comme, described him as an honorable Marine, a dedicated father, and a hardworking man. He left behind a young daughter who now misses her father deeply. The family set up a GoFundMe account to seek support during this difficult time.
The case did not lead to any further arrests or litigations, as the primary suspect, Williams, died from the injuries sustained during the incident. The Miami Gardens Police Department conducted an investigation into the carjacking and shooting, but with the death of the suspect, the case was effectively closed.
