Joshua Allen Monroe, a 31-year-old resident of Saint Petersburg, Florida, tragically lost his life on July 4, 2017. The incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. in the 2600 block of Miriam Street South in Gulfport, Florida. Monroe was shot multiple times during a physical altercation that took place outside a home. He was transported to Bayfront Medical Center as a trauma alert but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The investigation into Monroe's death revealed that the
altercation was linked to a drug transaction. Monroe had met with Marquelle Drymon, a 22-year-old acquaintance from Saint Petersburg, for a drug deal. The situation escalated into a physical dispute, during which Drymon shot Monroe multiple times. Initially, Drymon was not considered a suspect, but as the investigation progressed, detectives identified him as the perpetrator. On October 5, 2018, 15 months after the incident, Drymon was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was taken into custody and held at the Pinellas County Jail with bail set at $150,000.
The case against Drymon was built on the evidence gathered by the Gulfport Police Department, which included witness statements and forensic analysis. The motive behind the shooting was not fully disclosed to the public, as certain details were reserved for court proceedings. The arrest brought some closure to Monroe's family and friends, who had been seeking justice for over a year. The legal process continued as Drymon faced trial for the charges brought against him.
