Wendell Soliphar, a 23-year-old man from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, tragically lost his life in a shooting incident on July 5, 2017. Soliphar, who had recently moved to South Florida from the Bahamas, was leaving the BAM nightclub in Broward County when he was caught in a burst of gunfire. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. outside the club located on West Broward Boulevard.
Soliphar was pronounced dead at the scene, while another victim, Louis Simon, 30, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. A third individual was also injured but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Broward Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the shooting, releasing video footage of a silver sedan believed to be involved in the incident. Detectives suspect the vehicle, a late-model Hyundai Sonata, was used by the perpetrators. Despite the release of this footage and a reward of up to $3,000 for information leading to an arrest, no suspects were immediately apprehended. The investigation revealed that Soliphar was likely an unintended target, caught in the crossfire of a dispute that did not involve him directly.
Family members and friends of Soliphar expressed their grief and frustration over the senseless violence. His cousin, Junior Demelies, emphasized that Soliphar was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, and urged others to resolve conflicts peacefully. Soliphar's death left a significant void in the lives of his loved ones, particularly his young daughter, who now faces a future without her father.
The shooting at the BAM nightclub was not an isolated incident, as the venue had a history of violent occurrences. In the past, other shootings had taken place in the vicinity, raising concerns about the safety and security of the area.
