Doran Rashad Moore, a 35-year-old African American man, was tragically shot to death on the night of December 21, 2017, outside his home in the 3000 block of Fourth Street Circle in West Jacksonville, Florida. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reported that officers were called to the scene around 9:15 p.m. and found Moore lying in his front yard, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Moore was declared dead at the scene.
This incident marked Jacksonville's 134th homicide of the year.
As detectives were investigating the crime scene, another man arrived at UF Health Jacksonville with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Although detectives interviewed this individual, they did not confirm any details about what was learned from the interview. At the time, the police had no description of the shooter or further information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
In the days following the murder, the community mourned the loss of Moore, who was remembered as a father and musician. Friends and family honored his life, highlighting his contributions to the local music scene and his dedication to his family.
The investigation into Moore's death revealed that another shooting incident occurred nearby on the same night. A 37-year-old Jacksonville man, Nicholus Marquette Mitchell, was arrested and charged with murder in an unrelated case that took place in the parking lot of the Days Inn at 8255 Dix Ellis Trail. Mitchell's home address was less than two blocks from where Moore was found shot to death. However, the police did not confirm any connection between Mitchell's arrest and Moore's murder.
Despite the ongoing investigation, no suspects were identified, and no arrests were made in connection with Moore's death. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office continued to seek information from the public, urging anyone with knowledge of the crime to come forward. The case remains unsolved, leaving Moore's family and friends seeking justice for his untimely death.
