Scott J. Beigel, a 35-year-old white male, tragically lost his life on February 14, 2018, during the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Beigel, a geography teacher and cross-country coach, was hailed as a hero for his selfless actions during the attack. As the gunman, Nikolas Cruz, opened fire, Beigel unlocked his classroom door to allow students to take refuge. In the process of securing the door to protect his students, he was fatally shot.
