Jacob Lodge, a 36-year-old man from West Palm Beach, Florida, was fatally shot on February 18, 2018. The incident occurred at a home in Loxahatchee, where Lodge had gone to exchange clothing for his children. The suspect in the case was Carlton Nebergall Jr., a retired Palm Beach County sheriff's deputy and Lodge's father-in-law. Nebergall, who was 61 at the time, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder shortly after the shooting.
