Jaquan Berry, a 19-year-old from Pensacola, Florida, tragically lost his life on June 20, 2018, in a fatal shooting incident. The events leading to his death began when Shauntareeya Jones and Shalen Yeldon contacted Berry through social media to purchase marijuana. The meeting took place at the intersection of Edison and Trenton Drives. During the transaction, Jones and Yeldon attempted to pay Berry with a counterfeit $100 bill.
Upon realizing the money was fake, Berry tried to retrieve his marijuana, leading to a struggle. In the ensuing confrontation, Jones shot Berry four times in the upper chest, resulting in his immediate death at the scene.

Shauntareeya Jones was charged with manslaughter with a weapon and subsequently sentenced to 15 years in state prison. Additionally, Deon Nettles, another accomplice, was sentenced to eight years in state prison for his involvement in cleaning the car of broken glass and shell casings after the shooting.
