On April 25, 2019, 19-year-old Jamario Dixon, an African American male, was fatally shot outside a McDonald's in Pine Hills, Orlando, FL. According to reports, Dixon had gone to the McDonald's on Silver Star Road with his brother to meet someone. The meeting was arranged for Dixon to sell a gun to Deon Justice, another 19-year-old. However, the situation escalated into a robbery attempt. Shaddrick Wright, 20, who accompanied Justice, shot Dixon in the shoulder during the encounter.
Dixon was subsequently taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation led to the arrest of both Deon Justice and Shaddrick Wright. Justice was charged with first-degree felony murder for orchestrating the meeting that led to the fatal shooting. Wright, who was identified as the shooter, was also charged with first-degree murder. Security footage from the McDonald's showed Wright and another man approaching Dixon's vehicle, with Wright entering the rear passenger seat before shooting Dixon. After the shooting, Wright and Justice fled the scene, with Wright later arriving at the hospital with a woman who had been shot in the head during the incident.
The case against Justice and Wright proceeded with both facing serious charges. Justice, who had a prior arrest for carrying a concealed firearm, theft, trespassing, and possession of cannabis, was held without bail. Wright, similarly, was detained without bail as the legal proceedings continued. The tragic death of Jamario Dixon highlighted the dangers of illegal firearm transactions and the severe consequences of violent crime. The community mourned the loss of the young man, and the legal system moved forward to address the culpability of those involved in his untimely death.
