to sell approximately $650 worth of marijuana. During the transaction, Christopher Staten, one of the individuals involved, pulled out a gun and fired at Jenkins. Reports indicate that Jenkins may have also been armed and possibly fired a shot before being fatally wounded. The Escambia County Sheriff's Office quickly identified and arrested three suspects: Christopher Staten, Ladarryl Paige, and Reggie Lewis. All three were charged with homicide in connection to Jenkins' death.

Christopher Staten faced additional charges, including the use or display of a firearm during a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Reggie Lewis, another key figure in the case, was found guilty of being a principal to Jenkins' murder during the commission of another felony.
