Grosbin Juarez Castro, a 40-year-old resident of Tallahassee, Florida, tragically lost his life on March 21, 2020. The incident occurred following an argument over money, which escalated into a fatal shooting. On that fateful day, Castro and Jonathan Andrews, 35, were passengers in the same vehicle, driven by a woman who had agreed to help them collect money owed.
The argument between Castro and Andrews became physical, prompting the driver to pull over at the intersection of West Tennessee Street and Barineau Road and ask them to exit the vehicle. Once outside, Andrews shot Castro multiple times with a handgun, resulting in Castro's death from his injuries shortly after being transported to a local hospital.
Following the shooting, deputies from the Leon County Sheriff's Office quickly gathered information and a description of the suspect. Andrews was located at a nearby mobile home park and arrested. He was found in possession of crack cocaine at the time of his arrest. The investigation revealed that Andrews had shot Castro as many as ten times, including multiple shots to the back and face. Surveillance footage from a nearby building captured the entire incident, and a firearm was later found buried in the woods along Andrews' path of travel.
In the aftermath of the incident, Andrews faced legal proceedings. Initially charged with first-degree murder and possession of a controlled substance, Andrews' charges were later reduced. In May 2020, he was found incompetent to proceed due to mental illness and was committed to Florida State Hospital. Nearly a year later, he was deemed competent to stand trial. Ultimately, Andrews was convicted of manslaughter and possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
