Kirk Jansky, aged 33, tragically lost his life on July 17, 2020, in Perry, Florida, in a fatal double shooting incident. The incident also claimed the life of Heather May Luther, a 33-year-old mother of two. According to reports, Joseph Luther, Heather's estranged husband, was identified as the perpetrator. On the day of the incident, Joseph Luther shot at a car carrying Heather and Kirk, causing it to crash into trees near the Perry post office.
Both victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Following the shooting, Joseph Luther fled the scene but was later apprehended by law enforcement officers. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The case proceeded to trial, where Luther was found guilty of the charges. During the sentencing hearing held on December 18, 2023, Joseph Luther received two life sentences, the maximum penalty allowed under the law, for the murders of Heather and Kirk. Additionally, he was sentenced to an extra 25 years for fleeing and firing at officers during a subsequent standoff.
