Maebelle Cooper Laster, a 70-year-old African American woman, was tragically killed on December 24, 2020, in Lakeland, Florida. The incident occurred in the front yard of her daughter's home on Amos Avenue, where she was fatally shot during a violent altercation involving multiple individuals. The family had planned to spend Christmas Eve making gingerbread houses, but the evening took a devastating turn when a group of people, allegedly associated with a local gang, opened fire on the family.
