In May 2021, significant progress was made in the case when Miami-Dade Police arrested two teenage brothers, Dajuan Patterson, 17, and Demetrisse K. Patterson, 18, in connection with the murders. The investigation revealed that the brothers, along with others, had planned to rob Alexander Garrido, who was involved in drug dealing. They arranged to meet him under the pretense of buying marijuana. When Alexander arrived at the meeting place, he was confronted by the suspects with guns drawn. Alexander attempted to defend himself by pulling out a gun and firing at the suspects, but he was ultimately shot multiple times and killed. Diana Ceballos, who was in the passenger seat of the car, was also shot and killed by one of the suspects.
