Alaysia Hart, a 20-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on February 21, 2021, in Pompano Beach, Florida. She was visiting her mother in South Florida when she was fatally shot at an Exxon gas station located at 220 S. Dixie Highway. The incident occurred around 5 a.m. while Alaysia was in a car with three friends. Shots were fired, resulting in Alaysia's death at the scene and injuries to two others.
One of the injured was taken to Broward Health North for treatment, while the third victim was treated and released from a hospital.
The primary suspect in Alaysia Hart's murder was Anthony Eason, a 35-year-old convicted felon. Eason had a history of criminal activity, including a 15-year prison sentence for armed carjacking, robbery, and battery. He was released from prison on October 1, 2020. Detectives gathered ballistics and DNA evidence linking Eason to the shooting, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of manslaughter, attempted manslaughter, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
However, before Eason could be apprehended, he was involved in another shooting on July 4, 2021, in Miami. He succumbed to his injuries on July 16, 2021, at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Due to Eason's death, the Broward Sheriff's Office classified Alaysia Hart's case as a homicide and deemed it exceptionally cleared. This decision brought some closure to the investigation, but Alaysia's family continued to struggle with the loss and the lack of justice for her untimely death.
Alaysia Hart's grandmother, Zoraida Rosado, expressed her anguish over the prolonged uncertainty and the lack of communication from authorities. She described the emotional toll of losing her granddaughter and the daily pain of seeing her pictures and not receiving any updates on the case. Despite the closure of the case, Alaysia's family remains heartbroken and continues to seek answers and justice for her tragic death.
