The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 4:30 a.m., when Cape Coral Police Patrol officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Southeast 6th Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple shell casings on the roadway of Southeast 1st Avenue. Shortly after, at approximately 4:45 a.m., Kevin Palmer arrived at Cape Coral Hospital with a gunshot wound to his head. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his wounds.
The investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from a disturbance that erupted after a family from Lehigh Acres rented a vacation home to celebrate a 17th birthday. An Instagram personality had posted about the party, leading to numerous uninvited guests showing up. The disturbance escalated a short distance from the residence, resulting in multiple shots being fired and ultimately causing Kevin Palmer's death. Witnesses reported hearing a flurry of gunshots and seeing several vehicles speeding away from the scene. Additionally, a bullet pierced a nearby resident's garage, laundry room, and kitchen, narrowly missing the occupants.
Despite extensive investigation efforts by the Cape Coral Police Department's Major Crimes Unit, the case remains unsolved. The police believe there are individuals who were present at the scene but have not yet been identified.
